Demented caring for dementia

Postby xsoobee » Mon Jul 09, 2012 12:38 pm

Hi
Am caring for mother with undiagnosed dementia, who is almost deaf. I moved in with her nearly a year ago and am also fighting insurers, surveyors and builders while I try to prepare my house for the rental market. This means I don't have the time to do everything with mum that I had hoped. It also means I am not as patient with her as I should be and find myself snapping when she just can't be bothered to try to think. We live in Bucks and I moved in just after my sister announced they were moving to Anglesey in 2 weeks time. It is difficult taking over the parent role with your parent, especially when they object to this and become extremely obstinate and wayward. In my better moods I call her my delinquent mum. One of the biggest problems is that she is on the see food and eat it diet. She has pulmonary hypertension causing breathlessness and piling on the pounds doesn't help.
I think that's enough steam for now.

Hi Sue and welcome to the forum.

Letting of steam really helps sometimes feel free to come back and let off more

Hi Xsoobie, Welcome to the Forum. I like the term - delinquent mum - as I have one of those too. Never easy being parent to the stubborn parent.

Anyway, you have come to the right place here - lots of people who understand and a great place to let off steam :D .

Looking forward to "talking" to you, Anne

dementia will screw you up if you let it,it plays mind games with you, normality doesn't exist anymore with it,my wife has it at age 42 and my dad had it,i've concluded it's like playing a game, when you know the rules that dementia/alzheimers wants you to play by,it becomes easier to deal with and therefore play the game that is dementia, the condition will win the game in the end but it's the bit in the middle that counts, welcome to the forum and if you want to ask any questions like audrey said, there are a few of us that are quite knowledgable on the dementia front.
