Postby Jacqui » Thu Jul 05, 2012 8:58 am

My husband had a heart attack 2 yrs ago at 48yrs old,he aquired hypoxic brain injury due to lack of oxygen. This has affected his short term memory, his balance and challenging behavior. He has fallen twice, while in care, and has suffered a broken hip and also a broken femur. He now rely,s totally on a zimmer in house and wheelchair outdoors. He refuses to go anywhere wihtout family,we our at our wits end. :(

Hi Jacqui, I just wanted to wish you a warm welcome to the Forum. I care for my mum so different circumstances but I'm sure some similar feelings and frustrations. Do you get any help to care for your husband, or is it all left to you? Looking forward to speaking to you, Anne

Welcome to the forum. Do you think that your husband might benefit from more rehabilitation? Is he physically unable to go out on his own, or has he lost his confidence? Make sure that both of you have a benefits check, with Carers UK to make sure your income is maxmised. You've both been through a terrible couple of years, would a holiday help?

Hi there Jacqui, welcome to the forum. Lots of support here from everyone - have a look around the various sections when you can. Roll Call in Carer to Carer is a good place for a natter!

Welcome jacqui,

It can be lonely if you are caring for someone with brain injury because they often dont fit into most peoples idea of a disabled person, and there isnt often much help out there. My hubby had a brain injury from a road traffic accident 17 yrs ago. He too has bad balance and memory problems as well as hand tremour, speech difficulties, tonic/clonic seizures and somewhat scrambled reasoning.

So, you see, I do understand. ((((((hugs)))))))

And most people on here have the same frustrations and fears even if the details are different.
The problem with stopping to think is remembering to start again
