As for perspectives , I would project that CUK and other supporting organisations will be in a real fire fighting mode as changes to carers and carees lives will make the traditional way of thinking / planning obselete ... even if the signs are already there ... SCOPE being a pioneer in this.

Even funding ... Carers Trust selling their souls to a Corporate Sugardaddy , closing their forum , abandoning the few remaining members ... is one way ... I trust NOT to be repeated no matter the downturn which will force ALL to rethink their methods and operating costs ?

Contacting carers ?

Therein lies another conundrum.

CUK now centralised , carers can be contacted only through the grass roots.

Like the two people setting off a degree apart ... after 10 years , exchange binoculars for a telescope ???
Not sure, Chris, that more centralised. We have active Nations committees in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland with annual carer summits / carer parliaments etc; this year, we have been "on the road" to a number of English cities as well as last month's members' conference; and we are trying to build up social media presence to make it easier to communicate.

More than 1,000 of us are volunteering with Carers UK - helping with Help Line, serving on committees, monitoring media etc

Contacting carers ?

I look forward to the day when the Roadshow visits a deprived town area ... safe so far ... Sheffield could be interesting if held in certain postal districts ... a general one open to all comers as opposed to a selected few.

Better still , set up in a town shopping centre ... some still exist ... a stall or parked van ( For a quick exit ? ) ... even Mencap , MIND and SCOPE have braved my local excuse for one ... and ... no casaulties reported ... just egos !!!

Most asked question ?

" Can you put food in my belly or heat for my room ? "

" No but ... here's a leaflet. "

Doesn't tend to go down very well ?

Definitely planning more roadshows in 2018 - as this year - open to all members in surrounding areas - and very open to suggestions of venues. We have tended to go for larger towns / cities only because easier for people to get into.

I realise that more people may read the "FEED" of this Q&A after the event. Always happy to get questions or ideas on the work of Carers UK. David

Thanks David ... worthwhile for both Management and Plebs alike !

Takes a bit of nerve even if the posters in 2017 haven't the fangs of those a mere decade ago.

Times change ... as we in CarerLand know only too well.
