Holidays and short break from caring

Anyone going on holiday this year?
Maybe taking a short break from caring?
It's good to 'take a break' from caring. Essential for long term caring and so you don't become a victim of the dreaded carers 'burnout'.

I'd love to hear where other carers are going this year and maybe see some pics.

This site below is good if you're looking for a short break away or a week or 2 holidays with the family.

Groupon.co.uk is great for cheap short breaks and also wowcher.co.uk.

Ask for a 'carers grant' off your local carers hub or a Social Worker/ Health worker and if you have children under 16/17 who are disabled I think The family Fund can help with holidays and numerous other stuff you might need.Remember you need to apply to get the help available;)
Hi Charm
I've been given a grant from my authority and have a week planned in Devon with my dog .
I did the same last year but managed dad with 4 care visits at home per day.
I can't decide whether to go this year or not as my free respite break will cost an arm and a leg putting Dad in residential respite. I presume as he is self funding there will be no help .
If he is still needing 4 double up visits a day I suppose it won't cost that much extra- Oh Joy what a cheap " free" break that will be !
Do you have anything planned?

Hiya Henrietta,
I do hope you can get everything sorted so you can have your break. Devon is one of my favourite stops, I also love Weymouth and Poole. I'm off to Cornwall in about 3 weeks for 5 nights (Sun deal) Upgraded to a 2017 caravan cost 20 pounds and shared the cost with my daughter. She's a paid carer level 3 in the Community for the elderly and my youngest son is a window fitter:). I have carers in for my son and I'm lucky because my son's father will take over my 'night' shifts while I'm away whenever I want to go away. I haven't had my grant yet (I only get 1 every 2 years here for 250.00.)...I went to Paris Jan/Feb this year and went to Disneyland with my youngest Granddaughter who's 9. Nov last year I went to Frankfurt with my daughter to see Justin Bieber (My daughter wanted to go to his concert) It was brill to be fair.I love animals your dog will love it in Devon. My Samson used to he was a Lab, very loyal and a great family dog:)What dog have you got?
