NO ! .... not a new topic but , if anyone is interested or needs further information , please PM me as I am in communication with Trussells as a carer and our place in the scheme of things.
Worth posting as a guide , NOT intended for discussion !

Citizen's Advice Bureau general guidelines for those seeking help .... what you need to do before approaching a foodbank ... only applies in England.

Just a brief update on what has been reported , and confirmed , from sources allied to this emotive subject.

Carers ... so far , falling through the safety net appears to be common whenever the carer , or the caree , is hospitalisation , and the suspension of various benefits once 28 days has passed.

As we all know , household expenditure such as the mortgage / rent and some utility costs are fixed ... they do not change whether one is in occupation or not. Other utility bills are flexible , they vary with the amount of usuage although many will have a fixed cost standing charge.

Nothing anyone already knows so far.

The fun starts when the existing household expenditure almost equals household income. When the household income falls , as with the situation outlined previously , and that income is almost 100% from benefits received .... draw your conclusion. Now extend the hospitalisation period into months rather than days ... ?

My own knowledge is rather rusty in the situation where it is the carer who is hospitalisation. If no substitute is available , a lone carer just like myself in a previous life , the local LA / SS would step in. In that event , would they charge after means testing ? What if the caree needed 24 / 7 care ?

Potential £ 15 per hour x numbers of hours x number of days ? Cannot be so ..... can it ?

In that event , is it not like a tax on being ill ? Maybe not but ....

Food for thought ?
Latest figures released by Trussells as reported in the Daily Telegraph ... not renown for reporting on social issues.

Be interesting to see the first figures once the newer Energy Banks roll out. I suspect that they will not make good reading either. Harsh winter weather also predicted ... going to be double trouble for those who have fallen through the net , with many more moving that way.

Report from today's online edition of The Guardian.

It looks as if the DWP have soften their initial approach by at least acknowledging that Foodbanks actually exist even though the reasons for their use are " Complex ". Having a zoo of benefits , some clashing with others , is indeed " Complex " ... and just who IS responsible for the zoo in the first place ? Make them " Complex " so that fewer can understand what they are entitled to , and thus reduce the numbers claiming perhaps ?

The more " Complex " benefits / taxes are , the more problems in paying / collecting ... at ever increasings cost. Nice one ... Cyril ?

I mentioned Energy Banks ... here is the link :

https://www.trusselltrust.org/2015/04/2 ... -launches/

In due course , I hope that links such as this one together with maps are displayed in a prominent postion on all disabled / elderly / carer organisation web sites. For some who may ponder , it is NOT a political staement or criticism ... merely a reflection of what's happening out in the real world.
Latest report in .... Frank Field / benefit delays .... new words used by the DWP to rap around the denials.

Comments section towards the bottom. Some interesting. Always interesting to see some observations other than from carers. There again , some might be from carers.

If foodbanks were a commercial concern , in the top ten for growth this year ? Top five next year ?

Looks likely that the new Energy Banks will need to be rolled out a little faster ?

Fire brigade dreading the increasing number of prepayment meters catching fire as that dial sets out to break the world speed record ?

Who's the patsy for this one ? The Greenies ... surprise , surprise ?

The Daily Chuckle for this one :

For some , only half a tin of baked beans , the rest on the meter ... please ?

2016 ... and poor old Oliver and his begging bowl are still alive ?

Poor Oliver , he has to learn a new language just to ask for more as his heating is supplied by a foreign owner company.

Madness ....... what's next ? The air we breathe ?
No doubt , someone from the DWP will catch on.

Free food / energy ... can that be classified as a " Benefit in kind " ?

If the answer is " Yes " , just imagine a DWP stormtropper ( Never known to underdress for the occasion ! ) making a note of all food / energy given to each person. Following week , that person's benefits show a deduction for the " Commercial value " of goods received.

That old saying ... can't have one's cake and eat / heat it ?

It can't happen here ? You'll be surprised as to what happens here .... daily !
Hull to follow.
