Disability Benefits : Cut But No Savings !

Discuss news stories and political issues that affect carers.
Not a nice article by any standards , today's Guardian on cuts to cancer patients' families " Benefits " :

https://www.theguardian.com/society/201 ... nefit-cuts

What next ? Cuts forcing a pauper burial in the local lime pit , or canal if the price of lime continues to rise ?

Burke and Hare ? Time for you chaps ... again ... no need to steal the living , there's enough dead to keeping you going well into retirement .... fly tippers ? New buzz word ... body tippers !

I despair at times , on some days more often than others ... and today is one of those days.

To think of being born now , and 70+ odd years of life in ... precisely what kind of world ?

Visions ? Nightmares more like ... ?
Another article from the Guardian following from the initial report :

https://www.theguardian.com/society/201 ... d-families

One snippet worth quoting :
The Department for Work and Pensions has argued the new system gives families a tax-free amount and had been modernised to take into account the number of women in work. However, charities have estimated that 75% of bereaved families will be worse off in cash terms while more than 90% will see the length of time they can receive support slashed.
Notice the use of the word WORK. Now almost like an identity card.

Work ? Okay , pass on. No ? Up against the wall while I search you ? Hiding anything ?

It's coming ....
Another article from God's country , the Yorkie Post :

Was even He having a laugh at the time ?

Even deavouring their young ... springs to mind ?

Hereditary ... embedded in the genes , no doubt !
Today's Independent ... opens up a whole hornets nest !

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/po ... 12476.html

So , the Government have failed to deliver savings by cutting disability benefits.

Problem ? They will still need to attempt to produce savings to save political embarrasment , almost the worst fate any political party can suffer.

Okay , what's their next move ... ahead of me already ?

Even more cuts !!!

Forthcoming Carers strategy ... postponement in the pipeline ?

Carers Allowance ... a return to thinking last put down on paper in 2009 ?

Direct Payments Scheme ... extend to paying carers in favour of Carers Allowance ?

Horrendous problems if not vast tinkering with the current sysytem.

Purely conjecture ... but , don't rule it out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today's Guardian ... the word IRONIC springs to mind :

https://www.theguardian.com/society/201 ... wance-dies

Father of two’s death weeks after changes came into force means his family is entitled to £50,000 less than if he had died before 5 April

Ros Altman, a Conservative peer who used to be a minister in the Department for Work and Pensions, has teamed up with colleagues across other political parties to urge Theresa May’s government to change its mind over the issue.

She praised Alan for speaking out and said she would keep fighting on behalf of families like his.

“It is so sad,” she said. “His family is going to be devastated and I wish there was something I could have done. I am certainly still trying and I know there is feeling across the House of Lords.”

Lady Altman, who has written to the welfare secretary, Damian Green, about the issue, said that it was the role of peers “to try to persuade ministers to think again”.

Todays Guardian ... echoing my warning yesterday :

https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... c-spending

UK needs £15bn in cuts or tax rises to clear deficit by 2022, says IFS

Conservative party policy .... no tax rises ????

Comments section .... 808 as I type ... some will be eating their young ?

" Please sir ! How about our £ 132 BILLION ? "

And our supporting organisations " Vision " .... ???

.... of CarerLand ???

What's our Vison based on what WE see and experience for ourselves ???

Life can look very different if one is outside looking in.

As for carers , looking outside is just a dream ... for far too many , inside is their only view !

You have been warned ...

Guess who ? CarerWatch .... 20 August 2008 !

There will always be inequality ...... all citizens are equal , some more so than others ..... it's a question of how to encourage wealth creation and , at the same time , protect those who cannot participate in the said wealth creation.

A question of balance ( no disrespect to the Moody Blues ) ...... a balance that is sadly lacking in current fiscal policy ...... let the rich get richer less quick , let the poor , at least , be able to afford the bare essentials in today's Sad New World.

Soaking the rich through punitive taxation has never worked. Similarly , high corporation tax has driven many companies to seek less taxed havens.

One for the Left economists .... provided nationalising virtually all and sundry ( in the historical sense ) is not on the menu.
The trouble is the way the DWP currently communicates with the public. Mostly over the telephone, and then there can be a long wait before you get connected, then there seems to be a "time out". After birth minutes.
Most of the old DHSS offices have closed and been sold off.
