Carers, Advocacy and the Care Act

This course clearly outlines what the new Care Act has to say about advocacy and carers, and explore the fundamental principal skills to provide focused and effective advocacy. Through a mix of teaching methods delegates will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to advocate effectively on behalf of carers.

Delegates will be encouraged to consider their own practice and their organisation’s in relation to providing or requiring advocacy, and will be given the opportunity to explore how they can best support, inform and enable carers to access advocacy and support self-advocation.

  • What is advocacy
  • The Care Act and advocacy
  • Listening skills and assertiveness
  • Contract building, preparing and planning
  • Advocacy outcomes

This course will benefit workers supporting carers who want to improve their advocay skills to achieve better outcomes for carers.
