Carers and their Rights

The Care Act gives new rights to carers' legal rights within adult social care. This course will examine this new legal landscape and enable particiapants to utilise these and other rights for carers to  maximise support for carers.  

Aims

  • To provide participants with a thorough understanding of the legal rights of carers
  • To consider proactive uses of the law to enhance carers’ rights in health and social care
  • To increase participants' confidence in advising and supporting carers
Includes
  • Carers’ rights under the Care Act 2014, including a detailed look at what well-being means for carers, assessment, advice & information, prevention and getting concrete support
  • A summary of local authorities’ obligations to cared for people
  • Legal issues for young carers, parent carers and carers of people suffering from mental illness
  • NHS and hospital discharge: support for carers.
  • Rights at work: flexible working and time off for emergencies
  • Protection from discrimination

Level: Introductory/Standard
Duration: 1 day
CPD points: 5 hours
