Response to the Work and Pensions Select Committee Bereavement Benefits Inquiry

05 January 2016

Carers UK has provided written evidence to the House of Commons Work and Pensions Select Committee inquiry on bereavement benefits looking at financial support available following bereavement and support with paying for funeral costs.

Our submission highlights what a difficult time  this can be for carers who are often faced with difficult financial consequences on top of the emotional turmoil of bereavement. The evidence identifies a number of issues with eligibility for Social Funeral Fund payments that cause problems for carers. Our evidence raises a number of issues relating to the living  and housing costs of bereaved carers. It also highlights the difficult financial circumstances many carers are in and the difficulty for working age carers of returning to the workforce after caring has come to an end.
