Choice or chore? Carers' experiences of direct payments

3 out of 4 carers rate direct payments better than the services they previously received from their council, giving a thumbs up to personalization. However, this positive message also came with a stark warning from carers – that proper support must be put in place otherwise good experiences are undermined. You can take him home now: Carers' experiences of hospital discharge

Readmission rates of patients within two months of being discharged doubled – rising from 19% in 1999 to 43% in 2001. The percentage of carers who felt they were discharged too early also doubled. This research based on carers’ direct experiences details the poor support following hospital discharge and the impact of discharging patients too early.
