Recent years have seen major reforms of the law as it relates to carers. This course examines how that legislation fits in with the maze of other community care statutes, and what rights carers have as a consequence, both from social services and the NHS.
AIMS
· to provide participants with an outline of the development of carers’ legislation
· to consider proactive uses of the law to enhance carers’ rights in health and social care
· to provide an overview of legislation that supports carers in employment
INCLUDES
· an historical overview of the development of carer legislation
· carers’ rights under community care law
· a summary of local authorities’ oblgations to disabled people
· the legal framework and guidance on carers assessments and services
· legal issues for young carers, parent carers and carers of people suffering from mental illness
