Aims

Carers of disabled children often struggle to meet the needs of their children and can feel marginalised and unsupported by the health and social care system. This course will focus on legal issues in social care for families with disabled children. (NB It will not cover special educational needs)

 

AIMS

·        to provide an overview of the legal framework for assessment and service provision for disabled children

·        to investigate issues arising during the transition period

·        to provide a summary of the leaving care regime

 

INCLUDES

·        assessment and the Framework guidance

·        service provision including the relationship between the Children Act and the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act

·        Relevant case law developments

·        Particular problem issues including respite care provision, access to services at the transitonal stage and leaving care provisions.
