This course looks at specific areas of the benefits system for those who already have a basic knowledge and includes an update on recent or forthcoming changes to the benefits system.

SUITABLE FOR

• Advisers, carers’ support workers, social workers, health service staff, advocates and lawyers.    Basic knowledge of the benefits system is preferable.

AIMS:

To develop the expertise of those who are already familiar with the benefits system

INCLUDES

• An understanding of some of the problem areas such as backdating, overpayments and benefits for people from abroad
• Benefits payable when in hospital or residential care
• How to challenge decisions – the appeals system
  An update – recent or forthcoming changes to the benefits system
