Benefits for Carers:  Introduction

This course provides an introduction to the welfare benefits system as it affects carers.

SUITABLE FOR:

• Advisers, carers’ support workers, social workers, health service staff, advocates and lawyers.  No prior knowledge of the benefits system is necessary.

AIMS:

To help those who advise carers understand what benefits they may be able to claim in order to maximise their income. 

INCLUDES

• An introduction to Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance and Carers Allowance
• Means tested benefits (including Income Support and Pension Credit)
• Help with housing costs – mortgage, rent and council tax
  Help for carers who are also in paid employment, including Working Tax Credit
