Carers UK responds to government consultations that are likely to affect carers.
The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) was asked by Government to review the Fair Access to Care Services (FACS) guidance which local authorities use to decide who is eligible for care services. They will report in September 2008. This is Carers UK's response to the CSCI consultation.

The issues raised by this report are complex but Carers UK believes we must have a social care system that enable carers to have a choice about working and a benefits system that ensures that there is sufficient income for those who cannot work, and employment services that keep carers in touch with the labour market and offers support when carers are able to return to work.
Response to the Call for additional evidence to contribute to development of a strategy to reduce health inequalities in London. (May 2007).
Carers UK welcomes the proposed system for Personal Accounts which will help those on low and average incomes to save for their retirement. Automatic enrolment and compulsory employer contributions will incentivise saving, however the Government must ensure that it always pays to save, even for those with severely interrupted employment records.
