In Leeds 35,677 people have both a paid job and unpaid care responsibilites, supporting a relative, partner or friend who is sick, disabled or frail.
This report focuses on the situation of carers living of Leeds. It uses official statistics and new data from the CES survey to explore the extent of upaid caring among people of working age in the city, and examines the circumstances of employed carers who live in Leeds and the views of those who ttok part in the study. There were 107 responses to the survey from carers of working age living in Leeds: 78% were providing 20+ hours of care per week and 55% were in employment. 13 of the 134 CES in-depth interviews with carers were with Leeds carers. This report outlines the support available to working carers in Leeds, highlights innovation and service developments, and offers a contribution to the current policy debate about the role of carers in the delivery of social care in Britain, and about carers' need for support.
