Messages of support

Carer and disability organisations across the UK are backing our campaign. Read their messages of support.

The minimum wage is £5.35 per hour. A carer receiving carers allowance of £48 per week has an hourly rate of £1.87. Where is the justice in that? It is demeaning for Carers to have to beg - all they want is to be recognised and valued for what they do. And surely the best way to do that is by granting Carers a non means tested benefit which they are entitled to for the duration of their caring role.
The Princess Royal Trust Carers Centre Perth & Kinross

If carers have to sign to say they are caring for 35 hours per week and are then given just £48.65 the government are breaking their own min wage ruling!
Greater Pollok Carers Centre

Proper recognition is long overdue. A realistic 'non-overlapping' allowance needs to be paid to carers to enable them to continue caring.
Western Isles Carers, Users & Supporters Network

Carers devote to their lives to looking after some of the most vulnerable members of the community - surely  the Government could devote more funding to support them in their vital role.
Rethink Hillingdon Carers Service

This is a campaign this organisation will wholeheartedly support and will promote it to as many carers as we can.    Carers of Barking and Dagenham

Carers Allowance and State Retirement Pension should not be overlapping benefits. All pensioners who are carers should be able to get Carers Allowance.
VOCAL Carers Centre

The support provided by carers to loved ones is invaluable on so many levels.  The government must recognise the volume of work undertaken by carers and thefore the savings they are making for the NHS.
Montgomeryshire Crossroads

Please give Carers the respect and recognition they deserve. The country simply could not cope without them.

To provide support for a person who cannot go out in daylight, who cannot use a computer, or television, or microwave, is both time-consuming and stressful. Without adequate support the whole family's life is destroyed.
Eclipse (Support group for Lupus patients with severe light sensitivity)

This campaign is so very very important. It is about time that carers were not only officially recognised for the work they do but financially, so in many cases just to live outside of the poverty line.
Gateshead ADHD Support

We have over 200 members, most of whom have at least one carer. They are doing the job that local medical and Social services can not do, caring for those with M.E. of whom 25% are bed-bound, needing 24 hr care.
Rainbow M.E. Group

Disabled Living Allowance, not taxable. Attendance Allowance, not taxable. Carer's Allowance, taxable. Is this fair treatment?
Carers Support Guildford

Carers we work with would certainly benefit in many ways from an increase in the benefits they are able to access.    Wolverhampton City Council - Carer Support Team

we save you billions!! it is time to be recognised!
Richmond Borough Mind Carers Project

Family carers need recognition and support. Respite in some areas is in short supply with the closure of units.
