Send your postcard to the PM

11 September 2007

The Prime Minister says he is setting up a commission on carers. All the more reason to send him your message that carers want real change not short change.

Since we launched the paper version of the postcard back in July the response has been fantastic. Carers groups from across the country have been ordering thousands of postcards and inserting them in their newsletters or handing them out at meetings. As a result thousands of carers have been returning their postcards with a message for Gordon Brown. Many speak of their anger at the injustice facing carers. The messages are saying loud and clear - we give so much, we receive so little and we deserve better.

Gordon Brown delivered a key speech last week when he spoke of the need to engage across political divides on the key issues that matter to society. The issue he chose to illustrate this was caring. He announced he would be setting up a standing commission on carers and said how important it was to listen to what carers themselves have to say. We don't know the detail of the commission yet but it is encouraging that this initiative is coming from the Prime Minister himself.
