Main Content: Carer wins raffle
The winner of Carers UK's summer raffle was an 83 year old carer from London, who took the first prize of £2,500. The raffle was held to raise much needed funding to support the charities work advising and supporting unpaid carers.
The raffle winner Joyce cares for her son Gerald who has Downs syndrome. Joyce is a long standing member of Carers UK's Edmonton Branch and her and Gerald are familiar faces to many of Carers UK's supporters as their photos have appeared in our campaigns.
Drawing the winning ticket, Carers UK chair Don Brereton
said, “I am delighted that the winner is not only a carer and one of our
members but someone who has contributed a lot to the charity over many years.”
Joyce and Gerald were presented with their cheque by Imelda Redmond at the Carers UK office in London. Joyce hadn’t decided what the money would be spent on but hinted that her two young grandchildren might get a special treat!
Second prize of £750 was won by an 84 year old Carers UK member from Kent and third prize of £250 went to a member of the public in Northern Ireland.
