Main Content: MBE for carer Dave Burgess
Carer Dave Burgess has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours.
Dave is from Morriston in Swansea and is a carer for his wife Jan. They have been married for over 30 years. As a young woman, Jan had an accident at work which caused her to be paralysed from the neck down. Dave gave his full -time job as a printer to look after Jan.
Both Dave and Jan are active campaigners and have both dedicated their lives to challenging some of the everyday barriers faced by disabled people and carers.
Dave was a Carers UK Trustee from 2003 to 2008, has been a longstanding member of the Carers Wales Committee and is Chair of Carers UK's Swansea branch.
Imelda Redmond, Chief Executive of Carers UK said "I am delighted that Dave's hard work and dedication has been recognised. Charities like Carers UK can only run because of carers like Dave who give so much of their time and energy to helping others. This award not only recognises his own achievements but is significant for the thousands of other carers just like him, across the UK, who support others and campaign to improve the lives of disabled people and carers."
