Main Content: Carers UK honoured at Working Families event

Carers UK's work for carers' employment rights has been recognised as part of the thirtieth anniversary of Working Families, the UK’s leading work-life balance campaign organisation.

Carers UK are delighted to have been recognised, last week, as part of the thirtieth anniversary of Working Families, the UK’s leading work-life balance campaign organisation.

Madeleine Starr, Carers UK’s Strategic Projects Manager, was honoured at an event in the House of Lords on Wednesday 28 January as a pioneer for ‘her sustained and successful campaigning for carers’ employment rights, and for her influence in establishing Employers for Carers.’ Madeleine was recognised with thirty other pioneers who have led the way in the work-life field and who have changed the landscape for working families, including carer Sharon Coleman. Sharon was honoured for ‘her courage and determination in standing up for her rights as a carer, and for the changes this will bring for all working carers.’

The awards came in the same week as an event at BT Tower which saw Employers for Carers ‘go live’, with the launch of its new members’ website. Jonathan Shaw, Minister of State for Work and Pensions, spoke at the launch, and made a commitment to working with Employers for Carers to deliver better support for carers who work or want to work.
