23 September 2008

Carers UK Chief Executive, Imelda Redmond's response to Gordon Brown's speech the the Labour Party Conference.

Following the Prime Minister's speech, Imelda Redmond, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said:

“Gordon Brown has today paid tribute to the ‘amazing work’ done by the nearly 6 million carers across the UK. Carers UK welcomes the Prime Minister’s recognition of the huge contribution that unpaid carers make to our families and communities. However, we will be stepping up our campaign for formal recognition, equalities legislation and better financial support for carers, as well as campaigning to ensure that carers get the backup they need from social care and health services.”

“I am glad that the Prime Minister has also recognised social care as a ‘cause worth fighting for.’ Carers UK is committed to pushing social care to the top of the political agenda, and will press all political parties to include improvements to social care in their manifestos.”
