A UK wide network of carers battling for improvements to their local support services has topped 2000 members.
Carers UK's 'Equal Partners' campaign supports the thousands of carers and former carers who are working for change in their local areas. All across the UK, carers are involved in campaigning against service cuts, taking part in consultations to get carers views heard or sitting on boards and committees in a bid to improve services.
Getting involved and challenging decisions can be frustrating, intimidating and isolating. Carers often face obstacles to getting their voice heard or frustration at the slow pace of change. Carers UK's Equal Partners helps by giving carers facts about the issues, training and support to improve their confidence and negotiating skills and the back up of being part of a large network that shares ideas and learning.
One carer who is a member said "Carers UK's Equal Partners has really helped me. I love the style and the way it works. It's great for carers who can't travel long distances because it works largely through email and post. It’s raising the standard of partnership and enabling those taking part to be well-informed and to know their rights.”
