The Government has published the new National Carers Strategy setting out a 10-year plan for carers' services. The Strategy was launched by the Prime Minister in June 2008 and is titled 'Carers at the heart of 21st century families and communities'.
In total the Strategy commits £255 million to create additional support for carers. It also sets out medium and long-term plans aimed at transforming the way that society treats carers.

Shortly after the Strategy was published Carers UK held a series of regional debates with MPs to allow carers to comment on what needs to happen for the Strategy to make a proper difference to carers' lives. Carers gave a clear message that they want an urgent reform of carers' benefits to help carers who are struggling financially.
