Government asks carers what services should look like

13 June 2007

The Goverment is giving carers the opportunity to shape services over the next 10 years. Find out how you can get involved.

National Debate

Details of a huge national debate on how to improve the future of the nation's six million carers have been released by Care Services Minister, Ivan Lewis.

What could make a positive difference to, or improve the life of, carers? That is the question Government is putting to the experts - carers.

Carers UK held a series of consultation events to give carers across England the opportunity to tell us and the Government what the National Strategy for Carers should look like. We were overwhelmed by the response from carers and will be shortly producing a report summarising the issues raised.

A dedicated website www.newdealforcarers.org is launched today by Government as part of a major nationwide consultation exercise to engage carers in debate. Carers will be encouraged to post their ideas on the website around the issues that would make a difference for them. You can post a message, read what other people have said and say if you agree.  The site will be live until mid September.
