Information services in Swansea

05 February 2007

Dave Burgess, Chair of Swansea got together with other carers groups in Swansea got together to campaign for better information on benefits and services and increased breaks for carers. This led to money from the Carers Special Grant being used to provide new help and services for carers.

The Branch now acts as in informal advisory panel for senior figures from health and social services on carers' priorities when they are developing key policies - such as the Carers Strategy.

Dave explains how it happened -

“Because Swansea Branch has proved such a useful source of expertise and advice on carers issues for the Council, they've given us carte blanche to go away and organise our own carers forum - the Council now come to us when they want carers' opinions on documents and proposals - one recent example of this was the strategy covering the city and the County from 2007 – 2010."
