1. Be respectful
The forums are a place for people to exchange ideas. Please respect other people's right to disagree with you.
Carers UK has the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. Carers UK also reserves the right to ban users or remove postings if they -
- contain insulting personal remarks, are offensive, abusive or libellous or act in a way to cause harassment
- contain comments that misrepresent Carers UK
- are not constructive to the overall purpose and mission of Carers UK or create a distraction.
- disregard the forum rules and/or information provided by the moderator.
These rules apply to the Private Messages system as well as the public posts. The IP address of all posters is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. We ask that all members of the forum respect the decisions of the Moderators.
2. Links to other websites
On the forums carers are welcome to post URL's to other websites they think will be helpful to other carers. However commercial advertising or plugging of products, websites etc is not allowed and will be removed (also see rule 9). The posting of a URL on the forum does not imply any endorsement and Carers UK reserves the right to remove URL's from forum postings if we feel they are not appropriate to the overall purpose and mission of the website.
Cutting & pasting large sections of content from other websites is not allowed. Instead please include a short summary and a link to the page.
Carers UK has a links page of other organisations that you might find helpful in the Finding Help section.
3. Your personal information
We understand that carers posting on the site may want anonymity. Therefore it is OK to use pseudonyms for your user name. For similar reasons it is also a forum rule that you should not post your personal address, email or phone number on the forums. If you would like to contact other forum members please use the Private message (PM) facility. There is more information about using Private Messages in the FAQ section.
Any posts containing addresses or phone numbers will be deleted. However behind the scenes we do need you to register using your genuine email address so we do not allow certain email addresses that allow you to mask your identity. Carers UK will not pass on your email address to anyone.
4. Posting images
Users are welcome to post images on the forum providing that they stick to the following rules:
No posting of photos of anyone under 18 without parental consent
No posting of photos of anyone over 18 without the person's consent
No posting of photos that are likely to cause offence or bring Carers UK into disrepute
5. Post in the right place
The forum is divided into categories so you should try and make your post in the one that is most suitable. If you're not sure where your post should go then put in the General Discussion section. The moderators reserve the right to move posts into other forum areas if they feel it is more suitable.
6. Stick to the topic
Please try and keep to the thread’s original intention. We do not want to stifle the creative flow of the conversation but if a new topic evolves it is good practice to start again in a new thread. Moderators reserve the right to ‘lock’ topics that go off thread.
7. No duplicate posts
Please do not post the same topic in different forum areas. Duplicate posts will be deleted.
8. No excessive SHOUTING
SHOUTING is when people use all capital letters in their posts. This only works when used sparingly. Please do not use capitals to excess.
9. No advertising or commercial postings of any kind
Carer to carer recommendations of products is acceptable but any hint of commercially driven posting and the posts will be removed.
10. Questionnaires or requests to assist with research or consultations
Please restrict these types of posts to the dedicated area.
11. Breaking of the rules and banning of members
In most cases if a rule is broken a warning will be issued, any further rule breaking may result in the person being banned from the forum. In some cases a person may be banned outright without warning. Any banning of a visitor from anywhere in the Carers UK site is binding and the decision is final, and no correspondence will entered into nor will Carers UK be obliged to explain such banning.
Banned members attempting to re-register under new names/email addresses will have their accounts deleted without warning. It is also against the rules for other members to act as a proxy for a banned member; posting questions, remarks etc on behalf of any person banned from the forum. Any member found acting as a proxy will also be banned.
12. Complaints and reporting rule breaking
Any user who feels that a posted message or private message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email on forum@carersuk.org
Carers UK has a written complaints policy and all complaints are dealt with according to that policy.
13. Private messages
The content of Private messages should remain private and should not be posted on the forum. Rules also apply to PMs and if you recieve a PM that breaks the rules please report it to a Moderator.
